I want to thank the editor in chief of the Collegian for calling further attention to Phroth's successful Phollegian parody newspaper. I am extremely happy that our parody issue was so well-received and widely entertained Penn State. I also take great pride in helping to write for a publication that -- after 98 years of varied success -- is still going over the collective head of those who lack a sense of humor. However, possibly funnier than the content of our newspaper is that the editor of the Collegian thinks Penn State students might not be smart enough to understand that Justin Timberlake is not, in fact, returning all known 'sexy' to Alabama. I think this is an unfair assessment of the intelligence of our university's students.
I also wanted to address comparing Phroth to an offensive Princeton humor magazine. We are constantly aware of concerns such as offending social or ethnic groups and take great pride in the fact that we don't resort to such levels for a laugh.
Finally, in regards to your managing editor's implication that the Collegian is in a class above because it prints facts daily, in Phroth's opinion, the task of recycling AP stories received from a wire service and writing original stories with a large staff is much easier than writing creative fiction with a staff of about 30. Besides, there's no fake news wire service. So, while we respect the Collegian's efforts, we feel there is also a need for entertaining publications at Penn State.
