UPUA elects webmaster, passes bylaws

The University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) appointed its webmaster, unanimously passed its bylaws, set its calendar for the semester and filled its committees at its first meeting of the semester last night.

Bradley Shively (freshman-information sciences and technology) was the sole applicant for the UPUA's webmaster position, and was approved unanimously by the organization.

UPUA members had positive feelings about the first meeting.

"For the most part, I was very happy," Jay Chamberlin, UPUA president, said. "Everything was done civilly."

Ralph Crivello criticized the group during the meeting for not following parliamentary procedure closely and said he would work with the internal development committee to better familiarize UPUA members with proper procedure.

"UPUA is progressing," he said. "It's defining the structure that it's taking on and moving towards a deliberative democratic assembly."

Man charged in screwdriver stabbing

A Boalsburg man has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of simple assault and possession of instruments of a crime for allegedly stabbing his brother in the back of the neck twice with a screwdriver, State College police said.

Police said Brian C. Pincin, 26, stabbed his brother, Robert G. Pincin II, 28, with a seven-inch Philips-head screwdriver at about 4 a.m. Saturday at their Huntington Park Drive residence. Police said the stabbing resulted in two puncture wounds. Robert was charged with simple assault and harassment, and police said he struck his brother several times in the face while the two fought before Brian picked up the screwdriver.

Police said the altercation may have stemmed from an argument over Robert's girlfriend.

Both men were treated at Mount Nittany Medial Center and released. After being arraigned before Justice Jonathan D. Grine, police said Brian was released on $15,000 unsecured bail and Robert was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
