Police: Three fraternities vandalized

Three incidents of criminal mischief occurred at fraternities Sunday, State College police said. Two windows were broken at Kappa Alpha, 234 E. Beaver Ave., when rocks were thrown through them, police said. The incident was reported at about 12:30 p.m.

The kitchen of Phi Sigma Kappa, 501 S. Allen St., was reported tagged with "decorative lettering" at about 1:50 p.m., police said. Sgt. Chris Fishel said the kitchen of Theta Chi, 523 S. Allen St., was also tagged earlier in the day.

Former officer expected to plead guilty

A former State College police officer is expected to plead guilty today to criminal mischief, Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira said.

Jeffrey Chiston, 45, is charged with stalking, three counts of criminal mischief and harassment for his alleged actions toward a former girlfriend and colleague.

Madeira said he had confirmed the plea agreement with Chiston's attorney, Karen Muir. Madeira said he would request Chiston receive a probation sentence.

Muir said she had no comment on the case.

Judge replies to drug dealer's appeal

The judge who presided over the trial of convicted drug dealer Taji Lee filed a response to Lee's appeal to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, according to court documents.

Lee, 25, was convicted of 26 drug-related offenses in May. He was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison, according to court documents.

Lee appealed to the Superior Court of Pennsylvania Dec. 7, arguing that "the Court erred in making a number of evidentiary and other rulings and in imposing an improper sentence," according to court documents. Centre County Judge Bradley Lunsford's response, filed for record Jan. 9, rejects all of Lee's arguments.

"The Court respectfully submits that it committed no error of law or abuse of discretion in regard to the matters complained of an appeal," Lunsford wrote.

Penn State is spending $60 million on the construction of the law school's new building in University Park. The law school's Carlisle construction budget is $50 million and will include the renovation of the historic Trickett Hall.
