Letter to the Editor
Campus events and clubs funded by activity charge

In response to Timothy Uhrich's letter ("Reader questions reason for student activity charge," Jan 18), I have to ask if Mr. Uhrich has been doing much on campus at all recently -- because that activity fee pays for most it. Extracurricular activities, such as clubs and famous visitors, are paid for by UPAC, the University Park Allocations Committee, which distributes said activity fee. Clubs that put on performances, such as No Refund Theater, or hold special events, of which there are countless numbers, are allowed to cover most expenses because of this activity fee. Perhaps Mr. Uhrich should look around campus and realize that there's more going on besides sports. While UPAC is by no means perfect, there's only so much it can pay for, and without it, we wouldn't be doing much.
