Letter to the Editor
Weatherman's studies provide hope for reader

I'd like to respond to Keith Trainor's letter "Global warming to blame for odd weather patterns," (Jan. 19).

Seriously, it was the funniest thing I've ever read. The first paragraph was priceless. You can't specifically prove that the current weather isn't a result of global warming just because you can't specifically prove it is? I have no proof that the current weather is caused by giant gophers, but I can't completely rule those pesky, little critters out, either. How can anyone be disappointed to see a meteorologist speaking on the matter of climate? Isn't that what they're experts in? I realize that meteorology, on its simplest level, is "predicting the weather," and they aren't even 100 percent accurate all the time.

But Steven Strouss at AccuWeather is a reliable source. He's studied the subject matter, knows the science behind it, graduated with a degree, got a job and has probably even seen some of those future climate models. Maybe you don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows, but you do need one to interpret a very complex future global climate model with thousands upon thousands of constantly changing variables and probably a very low probability of being accurate over the course of more than 50 years.

I sure hope he's right.
