Police said St. Andre then tried to leave the scene and hit a parked car. Police asked for anyone with information about a small, red car parked on the 200 block of West College Avenue to contact police at 234-7150. Hit-and-run charges are pending, police said.

Student charged with theft from store

A Penn State student stole about $4,500 from a State College shoe store where he was employed, State College police said.

Otniel J. Calderon, 21, of the 100 block of West Nittany Avenue, faces four counts of theft-related charges for allegedly taking money from the cash register at Bare Foot, 130 E. College Ave., and altering sales receipts to hide the missing money, according to court documents.

An internal audit at the shoe store showed 170 cash sales were altered and money was taken between August and December, leading to a loss of $4,533.50, and all incidents occurred during times that Calderon worked, according to court documents. Calderon was charged Friday and placed in the Centre County prison in lieu of $3,000 bail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Graduate student allegedly bites police

A Penn State graduate student was charged with aggravated assault Friday on allegations that, while intoxicated, she bit and spit at a police officer and nurse at the hospital, Penn State University Police said. Police said Jenna E. Samra, 22, of the 100 block of N. Gill St., was found drunk lying on the ground north of the Hammond Building at about 2 a.m. Friday. An officer requested that an ambulance transfer Samra to the Mount Nittany Medical Center, police said. According to court documents, during evaluation from an emergency medical technician, Samra became "combative." Once at the hospital, police said Samra bit an officer's left hand and a nurse's finger, which broke the skin.

Samra was placed in the Centre County prison in lieu of $3,000 straight bail, her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
