Brown nominated for Lowe's CLASS Award
Senior post player Amanda Brown, fresh off her first career Big Ten Player of the Week award, is one of 30 Division I women's basketball players nominated for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. The award is presented annually to the NCAA Division I male and female senior basketball player who excels both on and off the court.
Brown joins Ohio State's Jessica Davenport and Purdue's Katie Gearlds as candidates from the Big Ten Conference.
Brown is the team's leading scorer at a 14.0 per game clip, which is also 10th in the Big Ten. She is second in the conference in rebounding (9.8) and fifth in field goal percentage (.553) and blocked shots (1.8).
The Montreal native recently became the 29th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points and is just the 16th player in Lady Lion history to have 1,000 points and 600 rebounds. In the classroom, Brown was a 2005-06 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten choice.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the award launched during the 2001-02 season to honor the attributes of college basketball seniors who remain committed to their university and pursue the many rewards a senior season can bring.
