Chisley turns himself in outside courthouse

Collegian Staff Writer

Patton Township police were waiting for former Penn State football player LaVon Chisley in the Bellefonte courthouse this morning and immediately handcuffed him after he voluntarily turned himself in.

Chisley, 23, was escorted by attorney, Karen Muir, and his mother into police custody for first- and third-degree murder charges. He is accused of stabbing Penn State senior Langston Carraway 93 times in June at Carraway's residence, 110 Northbrook Lane.

A hearing was held this morning before Judge Charles C. Brown to debate the validity of a search warrant of Muir's law offices, 1315 W. College Ave.

Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira proposed the search warrant to see financial records related to Chisley's fee agreements and payments.

Muir said the warrant violated Chisley's attorney-client confidentiality privileges. The judge ruled that the warrant should be served because it's not confidential communication as long as the prosecution only seeks out "monies owed, monies paid," and not any information pertaining to why the payments were incurred.

A preliminary hearing date has been set for 9 a.m. Jan 26.
