Students' weekend antics demonstrate need for RAs
In this editorial ("Apartment RAs: Apartment supervision not effective," Dec. 13) references were made in respect to students wanting to be treated as an adult, and the desire to no longer have their hand held. It was also said that "it insults the maturity of students who live downtown. Don't you think the need for a babysitter is long gone?" After reading police reports come Monday morning that reference public drunkeness and DUIs and witnessing first hand the fights that can occur over a taxi or seeing someone vomit in public, maybe the need is not gone. Students under the age of 21 rely on apartments as a safe haven to consume alchohol, and those who deny this are only fooling themselves. The student voice of wanting to be treated as an adult is unwaranted and is more likely a voice of fear hoping to avoid the possible troubles that could occur pending an RA in the building. Someone once said that it takes a village to raise a child. And clearly the village needs to step up before more innocent lives are ruined. When the students stop acting like children, they can be treated as adults. Bryan Kardisco
