Letter to the Editor
Reader fed up with prank

It's 4 a.m. and I am sitting in the West Halls computer lab wondering to myself what type of person pulls the fire alarm the week before finals. This doesn't sound like anything new, as I have heard that last year the alarm was pulled several times during finals week, including twice in one night.

I am not going to waste my time by berrating their antics because I am pretty sure doing that would only feed their desire to do it again. Although, I do wonder what goes through the head of this person as they pretend to be tired with the rest of us.

What I would really like to see is something that has a slim chance of actually happening. I would like to see video cameras put up in the hallways of our dormitories. I know the first thing people will think of is that this is a violation of our civil liberties and they don't want "big brother" watching us. I believe that anyone with this reaction are the ones with something to hide. Additionally, there have been plenty of other serious problems occurring in dorms this year, including alleged theft, assault, and stalking to name a few. Those of us with nothing to hide shouldn't be against this idea. Remember, shouting fire in a crowded theater is a limitation on free speech. Perhaps technology can help us stop people from "shouting" fire in our dorms.
