Before closing out the year, the Penn State Ice Lions defeated both the University of Connecticut, 5-2, and C.W. Post, 9-0, in two road games this past weekend.

The Ice Lions ended 2006 on a good note by bringing home two victories against University of Connecticut and C.W. Post.

After two years of not playing Connecticut (5-9-1 SECHL), the Ice Lions (10-2-1) were able to get a 5-2 win.

In the middle of the second period, the Ice Lions were down 0-2 before senior Dave Donatelli put the team on the scoreboard, assisted by junior Mike Sulkes and Connor McLean.

The Ice Lions were unstoppable during the third period with four goals. Sulkes scored and was assisted by Donatelli and freshman Colin Roth.

Senior Jay Smith gave the Ice Lions the lead with assists by seniors Adam Levine and Drew Ward.

Assisted by senior Jim McClain and junior Tony Rossi, captain Adam Levine added another goal.

With Connecticut leading early on, Ice Lions coach Pat Fung was worried about whether the team could catch up.

"We came out a little flat. It might have been from the long trip of getting out there," he said.

The Ice Lions didn't know what to expect from a Connecticut team they hadn't seen in two years.

"They were completely different since the last time we played them," Fung said. "I think that they improved a lot."

After defeating C.W. Post in the beginning of the season, the Ice Lions managed to tally another win, 9-0.

Finney and Donatelli both scored two goals. Roth scored during the first period, assisted by McClain and freshman Will Brunner.

Although Fung believed that it was an easy win, he enjoyed the game for another reason.

"We got our younger players to play," he said.

"I got to see what they have learned and saw how far we have come."
