Police report man with gun in dorm

Penn State University Police said a staff member reported a man with a handgun in Simmons Hall Sunday morning. The suspect was white with black hair and was about 5 foot 8 inches tall and 150 pounds, police said. Police said the male fled when he spotted the staff member and has yet to be located. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

Visitor allegedly causes disturbance

A campus visitor was charged with criminal trespass, escape, disorderly conduct and liquor law violation at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning for causing a disturbance on the first floor of Brumbaugh Hall, Penn State University Police said. Brian Olshefski, of Wilkes Barre, who was on campus visiting a Pinchot Hall resident, fled the scene when a residence assistant reported the incident but was soon apprehended, police said. Olshefski is being held in the Centre County Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail. While university police were handling the incident, a $500 breath-testing devicewas stolen from the lobby of Pinchot Hall. Police said the incident is under investigation.

Man arraigned on assault charges

A State College man was arraigned Sunday on simple assault charges and placed in the Centre County Correctional Facility in lieu of an unknown bail amount. Michael Alexander, 26, of 804 Stratford Drive, threw a woman to the pavement Dec. 10, causing abrasions to her back and bruises on her head, according to court documents. The woman told police Alexander pulled her down the stairs Nov. 21, causing her to break her finger, the State College Police Department said. Alexander was released from jail at noon yesterday.

Cassada to have bail hearing

Penn State student David W. Cassada will have a bail hearing today before Judge Thomas Kistler to ask to be released from jail. Cassada has requested to be moved to a psychiatric hospital in Pittsburgh. Cassada allegedly attacked two females in their dorm rooms this summer and assaulted a woman in a downtown stairwell in October. The hearing will be held at 11:30 a.m. in courtroom three at the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
