The third-seeded Penn State women's volleyball team defeated 14th-seeded Purdue, 3-0 (30-24, 30-18, 30-15) Friday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Megan Hodge led the Nittany Lions (32-2) with 19 kills on a .429 hitting percentage. Nicole Fawcett added 10 kills on .444 hitting. Penn State finished the match with a .454 hitting percentage, its fourth highest of the season.
"Coming in and playing like we did tonight is a very good starting step for us to continue doing what we want to do," Fawcett said after the win.
The Lions now face sixth-seeded Washington (28-4) in the regional final at 9 p.m. EST Saturday in Seattle. The winner advances to the Final Four in Omaha, Neb., next weekend.
The Huskies, who are hosting the Seattle regional, have not lost on their home court in more than two years.
