Trash policy is 'senseless'

The threat to fine student organizations for leaving trash in classrooms is unfair and unjustified, to say the least.

There is no way for Penn State to know who, through the course of the day, left the mess.

For example, I have a class in Willard that meets in the afternoon, and I have to wade through a sea of newspapers just to get to my seat.

This is strictly from regular, credited classes, which are immune from the fining system.

Should an organization that meets in that same room later that evening be fined for the pre-existing condition of the room? I don't think they should.

The same goes with the "you break it, you buy it" policy. If such a situation arises warranting a $750 fine, I challenge Penn State to flat out prove who did it and who is to get the fine.

Only one problem: They can't prove anything. It's senseless to arbitrarily blame and fine a student organization for a mess they didn't create, and if Penn State expects the organization to clean the room to avoid a fine, then Penn State needs a reality check.
