For four years I have enjoyed and grown through my experiences here at Penn State. Freedom has had a great impact on my development as a student. I was outraged earlier this year when the new food and drink policy went into effect.
The university is now threatening to fine those caught violating this policy ("Food policy revised," Dec. 7). As a member of an organization that serves pizza at its regular meetings, I can attest to the validity of those reports. Our organization has received the threat of fines and now we need a new location.
It is unacceptable that the university feels it can treat us as if we are in grade school.
Searching the Internet I've not found a similar university restricting students to bottled water.
If the administration can start pointing out examples of success stories elsewhere maybe I'd come around.
I still see faculty with coffee, sodas and other contraband even tolerating/encouraging student violations. If they start with our snacks and coffee, what's next?
