ComRadio benefits PSU
I agree with The Daily Collegian's editorial, "Radio station funding: UPAC should support WKPS-FM radio." (Dec. 5) As news director of ComRadio, I support a free and diverse culture of news and information at Penn State. I also believe students benefit from having multiple options to gain media experience. The university should adequately fund The Lion as well as other campus media outlets. However, I strongly disagree with the editorial's implication that ComRadio is in some way a lesser experience than The Lion. Although ComRadio is an Internet-based station, we also broadcast on Penn State's campus television network. Students can listen to ComRadio in their dorm rooms or in the campus's fitness centers by setting their TVs to Channel 6. One of ComRadio's chief slogans is that, "You can hear us in China, but not in our own parking lot." We see this as a positive for ComRadio. By broadcasting online, we can be heard by anyone with Internet access. This allows students, parents and potential employers around the country to hear our work live and unedited. It also allows Penn State alumni and fans to hear campus news, talk and Nittany Lion play-by-play anywhere in the world. Assuming that the lack of a traditional radio frequency would lead to a less beneficial experience is short-sighted and incorrect. Rob Arcamona
