For those interested in exploring The Best Places You've Never Seen, or discovering what the meaning is of This Is Penn State, look no further.

Students, faculty and staff may find these answers at the Penn State University Press company's annual book sale. The final day of the two-day sale is today from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Kern Building.

"There is a little of everything -- Pennsylvania titles, regional titles, Penn State guidebooks," Heather Smith, Penn State Press publicity manager, said.

The sale provides an opportunity for Penn State faculty, staff and students to purchase books printed by the Penn State Press at a 25 percent discount.

This year's sale also marks the 50th anniversary of the Penn State Press, which was established in 1956 as a part of the university, Smith said.

Penn State Press editorial assistant Cali Buckley, a 2005 Penn State graduate, said the book sale attracted several people yesterday, with sales totaling more than $1,000.

Buckley said the company is a scholarly publisher, which only allows it to do smaller book runs, printing from 800 to 5,000 copies of a single book at a time. Larger trade publishers, such as Penguin Group, have wider audiences and are able to print more than 10,000 books at once.

"It is more difficult for us to sell as cheap as a trade publisher," Buckley said.

Buckley suggested the book The Best Places You've Never Seen, Pennsylvania's Small Museums: A Traveler's Guide by Therese Boyd as a possible holiday gift.

"We just sold two of them, and they were both gift-wrapped," Buckley said. "I actually got one for my sister."

Patty Mitchell, production and journals coordinator for Penn State Press, said the book sale is a team project put on by the Penn State Press outreach committee. The committee creates opportunities for university and community service activities for the company to get the word out about its products.

Mitchell, also a graduate of Penn State, manned the book sale for most of the day yesterday. She said yesterday's sales exceeded the amount of sales from first-day sales in previous years.

"It has been above average so far, and we're hoping to go above our goal," Mitchell said.

As a possible gift idea for a Penn State graduate, student or enthusiast, Mitchell suggested the regional book This Is Penn State: An Insider's Guide to the University Park Campus, written by the staff of the Penn State Press along with Penn State staff members.

For the hunter in the family, Mitchell also suggested the book Deer Wars: Science, Tradition, And the Battle over Managing Whitetails in Pennsylvania, a regional book by Bob Frye that comes with a complimentary orange hat.

For those who can not make time to peruse the book sale, all books are available for purchase online at www.psupress.org.

Faculty, staff and students each receive a 20 percent discount off books ordered online or through the company's customer service department.
