The Office of Admissions has experienced a 12 percent increase in undergraduate applications for next fall, said Penn State President Graham Spanier at today's University Faculty Senate meeting.
However, the administration will monitor the number of students accepting offers to Penn State and will attempt to maintain about 42,000 students at University Park.
"We can't afford an extra 1,000 students on campus again," he said. "We're near the enrollment ceiling now, and our goal is to stay at that level."
Faculty Senate also heard a report on the changes to student government. The Senate Committee on Committees and Rules introduced a constitutional amendment that changed the Faculty Senate student representation from the Undergraduate Student Government to University Park Undergraduate Association.
The amendment was tabled and will be voted on at the Jan. 25 meeting.
