Ice Lions in top form for first-ever meeting with New Hampshire

For The Collegian

Although the ACHA Division II Ice Lions (6-2-1, 6-2-1 SECHL) had no practices or games during the Thanksgiving break, the team members still had hockey on their minds.

With their upcoming away games against University of New Hampshire (4-4-2 SECHL) on Friday at 9 pm and Saturday at 4 pm, the Ice Lions are working much harder.

"The break was a time to get more focus and have more energy since we are getting to the point where there are exams," Ice Lions coach Pat Fung said.

The Ice Lions go into their first game against New Hampshire unsure of what to expect, as New Hampshire just joined the league this season.

Fung believes that New Hampshire may be a strong and good team, but is amazed with the performances the Ice Lions have shown this season.

"New Hampshire is a fast team, but speed-wise, it has always been one of our strengths," he said.

Another strength Fung believes that the Ice Lions have is protecting the net.

Senior goaltender Dan Koletsky had over 40 saves against Stony Brook, and the team relies on his support against New Hampshire.

To prepare for the upcoming game, Ice Lions have concentrated on operating at full speed and maintaining their high intensity.

"We have been concentrating on playing a physical game and puck movement as well," Fung said.
