What is this university's morbid obsession with the TV show The Price is Right?
I eat lunch almost every day in Simmons Commons around 11 a.m. There are two TVs in Simmons Commons.
Every day, invariably, they are both showing The Price is Right. Why? I cannot understand how teenagers are watching this. We're Penn State. We're a big sports school. Why not watch ESPN?
Oh, of course not. I get yelled at by everyone from shy girls to big guys (who obviously are big sports fans) if I turn on ESPN. Just go to the other eating room where a TV is on that "other" show!
At least the TV in the HUB is always on CNN. I find that far more interesting than watching adults acting like hyper 4-year-olds and guessing prices to common objects.
I took great glee when, a few weeks ago, President Bush had a speech at 11:00 a.m. and it was televised on CBS. The entire commons was freaking out because "Oh
no! The Price is Right isn't on! How will we live?" Good. I'd much rather watch a political speech on a topic that doesn't concern me, my family or anyone I know.
I'm confused and disturbed by the behavior of my fellow students. I cannot see the entertaining value of that show. Please, people. Just put even one of the TVs on something else. There has to be someone else who doesn't like "that" show.
