O.A.R. is bringing another revolution to the Bryce Jordan Center.
On Jan. 21, O.A.R. and special guest Gomez, an indie rock band from Southport, England, will be kicking off the spring semester with an eclectic evening of music.
Pre-sale tickets are available for students at the Bryce Jordan Ticket Center and downtown at Penn State Tickets Downtown for $22.50 with University Park ID. Tickets go on sale to the general public Saturday at noon for $27.50.
Bernie Punt, director of public relations for the Bryce Jordan Center, said he was surprised to see a band like Gomez open for O.A.R. but thinks it will be a nice complement to O.A.R.'s sound. Punt said he is excited to have O.A.R. return to Penn State after last year's performance before the Ohio State football game.
"They actually contacted us," Punt said, and added that despite the fact the concert is scheduled for a Sunday night he's not worried about student turnout. "Sure we won't get people from very far away to commute for the concert, but this concert is really for the students. O.A.R's definitely a favorite on campus."
O.A.R., which stands for "Of A Revolution," has developed a reputation as a hardworking, grassroots touring band throughout the years and has gathered quite a following.
Tim Aberle (freshman-education) has seen them three times and is looking forward to this show.
"I've seen them at three different venues, and they always put on a good show. They always know how to relate to the crowd," he said.
Anthony Reale (sophomore-business administration) said he saw them play last fall and is excited for this concert as well. Reale said he saw them live twice and prefers the live performances to the band's studio albums. "I'd much rather listen to them live, or listen to a live CD. I hope they play some of their older stuff at the concert, too," he said.
O.A.R. has a reputation of spicing up its songs when it performs, giving way to long-winded solos and improvisations, much in the style of the Dave Matthews Band.
