Lions take conference swimming awards

The Penn State men's and women's swimming teams swept the Big Ten Weekly Swimming Awards on Tuesday as Kelly Nelson was named the Women's Swimmer of the Week and Tim Williams was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week. Both swimmers performed extremely well at last weekend's Bell Grand Prix meet held in Toronto, Ontario as the Nittany Lions (men's and women's teams combined) finished in third place out 69 teams. This is the first time that either of the pair of sophomores have earned a Big Ten weekly award.

Men's tennis signs trio for next season

Penn State's men's tennis team inked three Tennis Recruiting Network five-star recruits to its 2007-08 roster. Benji Kendall of Bryn Mawr, Pa., Jake Toole of Sharon Mass. and Jamie Cox of Acworth, Ga. will join the Nittany Lion program next season.

Kendall, from Harriton High School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., is currently 37th in the Tennis Recruiting Network's national rankings. Also according to those rankings, Kendall is ranked No. 1 in the state of Pennsylvania. He also holds the No. 3 spot in the Middle Atlantic rankings. Kendall will have an immediate impact on the Nittany Lion program when he arrives in time for the 2007-08 season.

Toole, a native of Sharon, Mass., is ranked third in his home state and fourth in the New England rankings. According to the Tennis Recruiting Network, Toole holds the 54th spot in the national rankings. Doebler and the Nittany Lions expect Toole, who is from Sharon High School, to have an immediate impact on the program.

The third five-star recruit signed by the Nittany Lion men's tennis program is Cox, out of Harrison High School in Acworth, Ga. Cox is ranked No. 3 in the state of Georgia and No. 62 in the national rankings. Cox will also have an immediate impact on the Nittany Lion program in 2007.
