Letter to the Editor
Fans can support the team from their seat

Kevin Ripp needs to relax and enjoy life a little more ("Fans lacking enthusiasm should stay in living room," Nov. 28). All this hostility toward fellow alumni fans in Beaver Stadium is unwarranted. It is wrong and selfish to think that the masses of alumni attending football games must bow to their impulses or be denied a view of the field. Tradition and common courtesy dictate the seated versus standing policy. During play, students stand and alumni sit. It's just that simple. I can understand wanting to pretend you're still a student. I had a blast jumping up and down and yelling obscene threats toward the referees, but we all have to grow up at some point.

Standing does not make you a better or more dedicated fan than others around you.

Don't be discouraged, however, because you can still scream at the top of your lungs to support the defense while sitting. I encourage and lead in these efforts at every game. In fact, when appropriate, I'll still threaten to burn the ref's children. So please, support the team, but don't be "that guy."
