Letter to the Editor
Reader lacking credibility to criticize music review

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Nicholas Staab for his hilarious letter, "Reporter degrades music" (Nov. 27).

Staab, your complete and utter lack of comprehension and blind fanboy-ism was good for a few chuckles as I read your letter.

First, you assert that it was not the reviewer's place to speak badly of your favorite band.

Here's a newsflash: Yes, it is.

In fact, that's practically a media critic's job description.

He was sent to the concert to qualitatively assess the band's performance, not pander to fans like you who think that the band can do no wrong.

Then, you say that he revealed himself as "inconsiderate," "irresponsible," and that he completely destroyed his credibility for "cutting on" a song that was inspired by the death of Tom DeLonge's grandmother.

Regardless of the song's inspirational background, if it's bad, then it's the critic's duty to say so.

I'm sure DeLonge was very hurt by his grandmother's passing; however, that doesn't give him a free pass to write terrible music.

Lastly, you suggest the reviewer should start his own band before he writes more reviews.

So, Staab, how many articles have you had published that you feel you can tell a journalist how he should do his job?
