Lions to play in Outback Bowl

Collegian Staff Writer

Penn State accepted an invitation today to play in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1.

The first game of a busy New Year’s Day slate will pit the Nittany Lions (8-4) against an Southeastern Conference team to be named on or after Dec. 3.

This will mark Penn State’s third appearance in the Outback Bowl and is the 22nd January bowl appearance in Joe Paterno’s 41-year tenure as head coach.

Since the SEC season is still in progress, Penn State’s opponent will not be determined until after the conference’s title game. According to a press release, SEC teams under consideration for the Outback Bowl include Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, Tennessee, LSU and Kentucky.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. from Raymond James Stadium.
