'Chicken Man' cited for disorderly conduct

Collegian Staff Writer

A Penn State student commonly known on campus as the Chicken Man was cited this morning for disorderly conduct after professors complained he was disrupting classes in the Forum Building.

Penn State University police reported to the building at 9:50 a.m. after complaints were expressed about Penn State senior Gregory E. Gehl for entering rooms in the Forum while classes were being conducted.

This is the first complaint police have received about the Chicken Man, who frequently visits classrooms on campus dressed as a chicken and carrying his pet hen, assistant director Tyrone Parham said.

Gehl said he intends to lay low after the incident since the comedic reason for being the Chicken Man is now ruined.

“If I knew it was making anyone upset, I would never do it,” he said.

Gehl added that he did not know he was doing anything wrong.

Parham said Gehl will likely have to pay a $300 fine and will appear before Judicial Affairs for the disorderly conduct and for carrying an animal into an academic building.
