Led by a combined 43 points from its starting backcourt of Ricky Lucas and Mitchell Beauford, Stony Brook defeated the Penn State men's basketball team, 59-51, Friday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.

The Nittany Lions (2-1) started off 1-for-8 from the field, yet led for most of the first half until the Seawolves (2-1) went ahead with 1:12 remaining during a 13-7 run to head into halftime leading 30-27.

The Lions brought the game within two on a three-pointer by guard Mike Walker seven minutes into the second half. Danny Morrissey led the Lions with 12 points, and tied the game at 45 with 5:19 remaining, but helped by 9 second half turnovers (and 21 total) by Penn State, Stony Brook never relinquished its lead.
