This will be the second time Lucrezio has worked with this show. In the summer he performed in a similar show in Cambridge, N.Y., with scenes from Jersey Boy and Wicked.
"I was hoping to do it again here at college," Lucrezio said. "We have been planning the show since the second week in September."
Lucrezio said he presented his ideas to the Pavilion Board.
"They wanted me to make it simple, but I'm putting in a little spark anyway," he said.
Lucrezio said Defining Broadway has a full band.
"It is a huge dancing and singing show," Lucrezio said. "The show is very high energy and exciting."
Because the show is completely run by Lucrezio, he had to work with a limited budget -- $100.
"It's fantastic what we've come up with, with such a small budget," Lucrezio said. "It has pushed me to be creative."
Kelsey Lobe (freshman-musical theatre) will be playing the lead role in Wicked.
Lobe said that she knows Lucrezio through the theatre program, and he updated her throughout the summer about his plan to bring Defining Broadway to Penn State.
"This will be my first performance on campus, and it is exciting to have Nathan as my first director," Lobe said.
Lobe said she is excited to play Elphaba, one of the witches in the Broadway show that serves as the prequel to The Wizard of Oz.
"My character doesn't fit in," Lobe said. She is looked at as different, and she's just trying to find her place."
Tyler Oyer (sophomore-art) will be playing the role of Link in Hairspray.
"He is an Elvis-type character who is very into himself, but he is able to discover true love," Oyer said.
Lucrezio said he ran open calls for auditions the first Sunday in October to find his cast of 15 students.
"The show is one big celebration of theater," Lucrezio said. "It will be enjoyable for everyone."
