I am writing in response to the feature photo "Ugg-of-war," on Nov. 13. I am personally highly offended by the fact that photographer Andrew Lala came to our fundraising event and took abundant action photographs and the information of numerous girls yet reported barely anything in the actual paper. I am the Kappa Delta chairwoman for Shamrock and was honored to have him join our event, but upon seeing what was in the paper became offended.
Having no real article is excusable but to title the one photograph "Ugg-of-war" is impertinent. I personally put a massive amount of my time into planning and organizing a successful event to raise money for Prevent Child Abuse America and the little recognition I received was mocked with a reference to a pair of shoes.
The Daily Collegian is not a fashion magazine or style gossip column and to ridicule a serious event is inexcusable and unprofessional. Not only was this an insult but then to see that Sigma Gamma Rho sorority received a front page report on their Yo Mama competition was upsetting. This event was in celebration of their founding and though some proceeds went to Project Reassurance, it only attracted 40 people. I am glad to see their fundraiser was a success and applaud them for that, but Kappa Delta Shamrock had more than 50 participants and was an exciting event to help others. This year almost doubled the amount made last year and we considered it to be an extremely successful event. Overall, I am a highly disappointed reader and I know there are many others who feel this way as well.
