After reading Steve Edling's letter ("Penn State should uphold Thon spirit and safety," Nov. 15) regarding the commonwealth campuses and Thon, I want to know how, exactly, is the commonwealth tarnishing Thon's image? Is it by getting people who often feel left out of Penn State life involved in something that they can take pride in and feel a part of? Is it by spreading the word about Thon and the Four Diamonds Fund?
Is it by the simple fact that they are not at University Park and by that fact alone they are lesser members of the Penn State community? I take great pride in being involved with Thon both at University Park and at the Abington campus. It gives you a great feeling of both the university experience and philanthropic good.
Before issuing their edicts, maybe the overalls should tour the commonwealth events and get a better idea of the situation, instead of demanding people adhere to regulation that would by-in-large eliminate their fundraising activities.
But then again, that might make them realize there is more to Penn State than University Park
