Joe Paterno will not attend next month's College Football Hall of Fame induction for injury-related reasons, instead postponing the formal induction until next year's event, according to a press release issued by the National Football Foundation (NFF).
Paterno is still recovering from two torn ligaments and a broken shinbone, and his doctor cautioned him to limit traveling for six weeks.
Penn State's head coach was expected to be honored, along with Florida State coach Bobby Bowden. A few events and awards will go on as planned - he will still be honored with NFF's Gold Medal, and a video tribute to the 79-year-old coach will still be aired.
"Being honored with my good friend Bobby Bowden and receiving the highest honor of this special organization means a great deal to me," Paterno said in the press release. "I was looking forward to being in New York and spending time with Bobby, his wife Anne and their kids, Sue and our kids. I know that December 5 will be a special evening and we'll look forward to sharing in that next year."
