Senate discusses possible tuition rally

The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) discussed the possibilities of a tuition rally at their meeting last night.

The rally would serve as an addition to the Rally in the Rotunda, held annually each spring.

"I've heard increases in tuition upwards of 7.5 to 13.5 percent," Angelo Pontillo, USG governmental relations coordinator, said. "It's definitely going to be raised more than the price of inflation, which is a problem."

Pontillo said he is working with members of Black Caucus to thwart interest and possibly hold a small protest this semester.

"We might hold a small one behind Old Main," he said. "We have also considered camping on the Old Main lawn."

He said he would like to get as many interested organizations as possible.

A meeting will be held tomorrow in 223 HUB-Robeson Center at 8 p.m. for any organization or individual interested in planning possible tuition protests and rallies.

"It's only going to get worse," Pontillo said. "It's important that we do something about it."
