[ Updated Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006 ]

The State College Police Department and Alpha Fire Company reported to a fire at Parkway Apartments on Pugh Street early this morning.

Ever since a portrait of the first Penn State President Evan Pugh was given as a gift by the class of 1861, most graduating senior classes have followed the tradition by giving gifts of their own.

More than 1,000 students have donated blood in the past two weeks in hopes of Penn State defeating Michigan State in the annual Penn State-Michigan State Blood Donor Challenge.

Last night at about 7, a mere four people were shooting pool at the Corner Pocket, a billiard room which sits in the southwest corner of the HUB-Robeson Center. Eight of the room's 10 tables sat vacant while a single projection TV droned on, unwatched, in the back of the room.

Assembly President Ricardo Torres presented a report on student government representation for academic issues and outlined options for the future of the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Academic Assembly at last night's meeting.

After refusing anything more than one Tylenol a day since his operation, Joe Paterno is ready to get back to coaching and should return to practice today, his wife said last night.

A State College police investigation revealed that several friends of Anthony Torsell tried in vain to stop him from driving drunk Oct. 28, Centre County Assistant District Attorney Steve Sloane said yesterday.

Public defenders representing the man charged with beating a Penn State student to death said they have found more evidence proving the existence of "Sweet," an alleged third party in the February homicide.

The past couple of days have been quite hectic for Marlin Luse when he makes his daily mail delivery to Joe Paterno's office.

SPORTS

In the past, Penn State men's basketball has been dependant on guard play. With undersized players on the interior, the Lions had to look outside to find points. When the three-pointers wouldn't fall, the Lions usually lost.

Jamelle Cornley had heard it enough: UNC Greensboro forward Kyle Hines was quite a basketball player.

Minutes removed from Sunday afternoon's victory over Syracuse, the members of the Lady Lions were greeted in their locker room by packets of information on South Carolina, who they will meet at 7 tonight in the Bryce Jordan Center.

She was energetic. She was poised. She was rugged.

His title might have been "defensive coordinator." But, on Saturday, Tom Bradley took control of the reins in Joe Paterno's absence -- and earned praise from various players.

It was obvious that Heather Tomko -- with a 1,000-watt smile beaming across her face -- didn't want the fun to end.

Unstoppable and explosive.

The Penn State men's tennis team was using this past weekend's Big Ten Singles Championships at the University of Michigan to see just how far the team had come since the beginning of the semester.

The energy drinks guzzled before cramming for an exam may contain more stimulants than students realize.

For many people who wish to lose a few pounds, there may be an easier way than counting calories and eating next to nothing. The trick: eating foods with less density.

Blue eyes or brown? Red hair or blonde? Liberal or conservative?

In one corner of the ring is Sony's powerhouse, PlayStation 3, clad in a devilish black. In the other corner of the ring is Nintendo's wee Wii, clad in angelic white.

Female student athletes who have abnormal menstrual cycles and eating behaviors are more likely to develop over-use injuries, a recent study found.
