One man died and another was injured after their single engine, two-seat plane crashed Friday night in Snowshoe Township, north of Bellefonte, from undetermined engine problems.
The plane wreckage was found at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday in a wooded area near Route 80, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.
The 63-year-old passenger, Harry Batson, of Erie, Mich., died at the scene, according to a press release from the Centre County Coroner's Office. Batson died of multiple trauma injuries, Coroner Scott Sayers said.
Pascal Schadegg, of Switzerland, was air-lifted to Altoona Hospital. He remained in critical condition yesterday and was expected to undergo surgery Saturday.
Schadegg was flying a homebuilt Glastar 41 plane Friday from Hazelton Airport to Metcalf, Ohio, when he informed New York Center that he was experiencing engine trouble, Lt. Lynda Paulsen, public affairs officer for Civil Air Patrol, said.
