Big jokes, big money

For the Collegian

"Yo momma's so dumb, she got locked in a supermarket and starved to death," said Nate Williams, on stage competing in Penn State's first Yo Momma competition.

The event, which took place Friday at the Pollock recreation room, was hosted by Dana Taylor, president of the Sigma Gamma Rho sorority. John Norman (senior-African American studies) also co-hosted.

About 40 students watched Williams, along with eight other competitors, joke their way towards the $70 cash prize.

After three intense rounds, Williams, a Chestnut Hill College student, walked away with the money.

" I’ve been doing this for years," he said.

Taylor said the proceeds from the event will be donated to Project Reassurance, a national philanthropy. Both Taylor and Norman said they hope to make the Yo Momma Competition an annual event.
