The Council of Commonwealth Student Governments (CCSG) passed a resolution at its meeting last weekend urging faculty members to notify the Penn State Bookstore of their textbook requests early to help lower prices.

On Yom Kippur, he donned a white suit. On Hanukkah, he lit menorahs. On Fridays, he observed prayer with Jewish students.

While the University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) is seeking students to fill academic college seats, the procedure for the appointments is drawing criticism from some.

With 100 days to go until the 2007 Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, Thon volunteers were out in force yesterday to excite students about the event and spread the word that the countdown has begun.

Taji "Verbal" Lee, a man sent to prison for 30 to 60 years after being convicted of coordinating one of the largest drug rings in the county, was denied both a new trial and a modified sentence yesterday.

"I'm too sexy for jail," Taji "Verbal" Lee said as he sat in his orange Centre County jumpsuit, his wrists and ankles handcuffed.

Julian Bond, chairman of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), said last night that he was proud of the way Pennsylvania voted in Tuesday's election.

Studentcity.com and the Penn State Marketing Association (PSMA) teamed up with Laguna Beach's Kyndra last night to promote "good times and debauchery" as a spring break option.

Israeli journalist Yaron Deckel said last night that he can remember a time when he was afraid to drive between two buses -- let alone enter a coffee shop -- in his home country.

A Penn State student accused of attacking two women in their dorm rooms and another woman in a downtown apartment building was yesterday denied his request to be moved from prison to a psychiatric ward in a Pittsburgh hospital.

Joe Paterno's doctor has recommended still-hospitalized Paterno not take the field for the rest of the season, but it's possible the 79-year-old will sit in the coach's booth this Saturday.

More than twice the number of students who voted on campus in the last midterm election turned out to vote yesterday, largely due to increased early registration and overall student awareness, members of Represent Penn State said.

Even Ali Krieger, in her fourth year at Penn State, didn't see this one coming.

The Penn State women's soccer team celebrated a little longer than usual after scoring its first goal against Michigan last Friday.

If defense truly does win championships, then the Penn State Division I ACHA Icers have been showing recently they have what it takes to contend for an eighth national title.

For the true fanatic of Penn State football, there is one place to go on the Internet. The new Web site GoPSF.com, launched on Sept. 1, provides browsers with several different varieties of media based solely around the football team.

Rich Reichart, head coach at St. Anthony's High School on Long Island, thinks about the best running back he's ever had and says he only got 15-20 touches per game.

Before home matches, the Penn State women's volleyball team has one warmup soundtrack that's been used all season. Freshmen Alisha Glass and Megan Hodge made the playlist, which is custom for first-year players on the team.

There are the players that put up the big numbers, the ones that dominate all the headlines. And then there are those whose value will never be indicated on the scorecard.

MSU v. PSU blood drive: Donate blood and save lives

ARTS

I love to go "thrifting" because the selection in thrift stores always varies, and you never know what kind of deal you will find. I'm not embarrassed to shop at thrift stores, even if that means someone else has already worn the clothing I might purchase. Some people don't like that idea, or how some stores smell like stuffy laundry rooms, or believe that the clothes they sell are too worn or outdated to be stylish. Other people just don't have the convenience of a thrift store near them, but there are a few secondhand clothing stores in the State College area that offer plenty of good deals if you are willing to take the time and look for them. I decided to check them out.

The Game -- Doctor's Advocate

A group of Penn State students have formed a club that's putting an end to the cereal and mac-and-cheese diet.

What are hops and what role do they play in beer?

The Black Keys, a blues-rock duo from Akron, Ohio, knows how to rock, and it doesn't need much to do it. Dan Auerbach's voice and guitar and Pat Carney's drums are all the group needs to put out album after album of gritty, lower-than-lo-fi, straight-ahead blues. The duo's most recent release, Magic Potion, delivers the same rawness found on its past work, only even better. This past Saturday, the duo shot up the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. I had a chance to chat with Carney about his influences, musical style and past tours.

This weekend, students will be able to experience a lunchtime break with construction workers and then travel to Europe with a schoolteacher in just one night.

Being in a rock band means facing many challenges -- having no money, being out on the road, partying incessantly.

An idea nearly six years in the making has finally been realized at the Palmer Museum of Art.
