Paterno to remain in hospital, not coach Saturday

Collegian Staff Writer

At the urging of Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, Joe Paterno will remain in the hospital while his team takes on the Owls Saturday.

Recovering from Sunday's knee surgery, the 79-year old summoned his assistants to his hospital room in Mount Nittany Medical Center this morning. According to a press release, Paterno said, "you guys know what you're doing, and what we've mapped out. I don't need to be there creating a distraction. Enough on me; let's get back to football."

According to a press release, defensive coordinator Tom Bradley will oversee the defense while offensive coordinator Galen Hall will take care of the offense. In the event that coaches cannot agree on a call, Bradley will be the tie-breaker because he has been with the program the longest.

This will mark only the third time Paterno will not be on the sidelines in his 41 years as Penn State's head coach.
