Ms. Winberry, thank you for voicing what so many of us are thinking about the political fear rhetoric regarding sex offenders ("Sex offender laws a serious contradiction," Nov. 7). When a person has served their time they should be allowed to go on with their life. Sex offenses have been proven to happen by a family member or someone the child knows and trusts -- not by the stranger who lives down the street. Many families of registered sex offenders (most of them never touched a child as part of their crime) are being shamed, ostracized and harmed by these laws, while parents are being lulled into a false sense of security thinking these laws are making their children safe. I admire you for seeing through the political smoke and writing what you did. I look forward to reading more from you.
