A total of 432 voters had cast their ballots at HUB Heritage Hall by 2:45 p.m., according to polling reports. The total takes into account the four precincts that report to the HUB.
Outside the polling location, People for the American Way Foundation (PFAWF), along with Represent Penn State, are providing election protection forms to alleviate concerns from students who fear their vote will not count.
"In State College there are about 16 different places for students to vote and that can be very confusing," Shaunna Thomas, a member of PFAWF, said. "If you are a registered voter and you come to the HUB but it is not your designated polling place, then you can still vote here but it will be through a provisional ballot."
Election protection forms are forms that voters fill out with all their basic information. They are a type of election insurance, because after the election is over, PFAWF will physically check to make sure the provisional votes cast were counted, Thomas said.
"There are cases where registered voter's names have not been added to the voter list, and provisional ballots are often challenged by party officials after they are cast," she said. "Which way a person voted is not pubic information, but whether or not someone voted is. After reviewing this information, if a registered voter's ballot was not counted, then it could serve as a basis for a lawsuit."
PFAWF is providing the election protection service to students to ensure that voter suppression is not occurring in Pennsylvania.
"We're here as a precaution," Thomas said. "We hope that we don't find any voter suppression when we review election results, but if we do, then here is your voter insurance."
