I don't care which side of the aisle you call your own, or if you simply sit in the aisle, but Kevin Doran's column ("Political choices leave something to be desired," Nov. 2) should be irritating to each and every one of you. Saying give up because the government is broken is insane.
If you believe the government is broken - which I do - you have to work that much harder to fix it.
Encouraging people to be apathetic, as Doran does, is simply irresponsible. His example of McDonald's and boycotting doesn't work at all. Government wants us to be apathetic, so they can go about doing what they want without being hung up by what we want.
Why do you think, as Doran points out, that politicians campaign as much as they do?
They are scared - scared to be voted out of their position by their constituency.
If they don't hear anything from their voters, they assume they are doing a good or at least adequate job. When you find something wrong, as I have with this column, you have to make it known.
Instead of writing a column promoting the slacking culture that seems prevalent with today's voting youth, we should be encouraged not only to vote - that will get us only so far - but to pester and annoy our Congress people until they are no longer unresponsive. Make them work for you; that is what they are elected to do.
