Deciding that it was the fastest way to recovery, Joe Paterno, in consultation with the Penn State medical team, elected to have surgery yesterday to repair the injuries to his left leg.
The operation, according to a press release, was performed yesterday at Mount Nittany Medical Center and has been deemed successful.
Penn State's head coach of 41 years, Paterno suffered a tibial plateau fracture of his left leg and tore the medial collateral ligament and posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a sideline collision on Saturday at Wisconsin.
According to the press release, Dr. Wayne Sebastianelli, Penn State director of athletic medicine, performed the surgery and reported today that the surgical team accomplished all of its objectives and that Paterno is resting comfortably with a full recovery expected.
