Campus contruction beneficial for students
This is in response to the letter, "Current state of university saddens student reader" (Nov. 3). Ms. Hart, while I agree with you that the state of this university is decrepit at best when it comes to policy, you however have a red herring in your argument. "The Wasteland" parking lot you refer to between North and East halls was closed and buildings were erected in its place, one of which is a parking deck (which negates your concern for a loss of student parking). However, these "ugly airport terminals," are in fact very nice buildings. As a student in forestry at Penn State, I can tell you about our old, run-down, too-small Ferguson building. Forestry was fortunate enough to have people with the vision to expand and increase our major and the science behind it, one of those people being Graham Spanier. Gasp! Yes, the man who we all love to criticize stepped in to ensure that Pennsylvania continues to have state-of-the-art facilities to train state-of-the-art foresters and other natural resource planners. I welcome you to come into the new Forest Resources Building and enjoy the cherry-lined halls and rooms of a building that without vision and planning and care for students would otherwise be a "wasteland."
