Santorum to visit State College

Collegian Staff Writer

Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa), in the last few days of a U.S. Senate race that has garnered national attention, will pay a visit to State College tomorrow evening.

Santorum will be meeting with supporters and party volunteers at the Republican Victory Center, 232 S. Allen St., tomorrow at 8:30 p.m., said spokesperson Virginia Davis.

Davis said that students were encouraged to come out and meet with Santorum, who would be emphasizing his campaign platform.

"He wants to ensure that young folks, when they go into the work force, have more money in their paycheck, and ensure education is more affordable," she said.

Parlett said they looked forward to Santorum’s visit as a "mini-rally" for her and her fellow volunteers.

"It’s part of his statewide tour stopping at volunteer centers," she said. "He’s just stopping by to encourage the people who have been making phone calls and going door-to-door."

College Democrats spokesman Eliot Schmidt said he and other members of his organization would consider going to see Santorum.

"He’s done this once before, gone to the Victory Center to rally the troops," he said. "We sort of don’t like to gate-crash when he does things like that."

College Republicans chair Todd Taylor could not be reached.
