Local bar receives fines, suspension

Collegian Staff Writer

The State College bar Tony's Big Easy, 129 S. Pugh St., will face a $600 fine and a one day liquor license suspension for "happy hour" violations that occurred at the bar.

Sammark Inc., who co-owns Tony's Big Easy, received a citation this summer for three separate incidents that allegedly occurred in February at the location, which also includes Candy Bar and Lounge, and Lulu's Nightspot, formerly known as Club Love.

Dennis Smolko, enforcement supervisor with the Pennsylvania Police and Bureau of Liquor Enforcement, said investigation of Tony's Big Easy began after the stabbing of Penn State senior Michael Donahue, who died of a puncture wound to the heart on Feb. 17.

Sammark Inc. had reached a plea bargain with the Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement and the administrative law judge made his final decision regarding the terms of the plea bargain Friday, following about a week of review.
