Alumni discuss African aid efforts

Collegian Staff Writer

Members of the African Students Association met with two Penn State alumni who are active in African aid efforts last night to discuss solutions to help bring an end to poverty on the continent.

Husband and wife Florence Nyangara, a 2000 Penn State alumnus, and Reuben Marwanga, a 1998 Penn State alumnus, spoke with about 50 students in Berg Auditorium about corrupt African politicians and what can be done to help the situation.

"If we could change just two people's minds, that would be good," said Nyangara, who encouraged the African students to put their Penn State education to use to help their home villages.

Sylvian Didier-Kouame, president of the African Students Association, said he hopes to make this discussion an annual event.

"The solution should come from the African students," he said.
