Loop keeps students safe
This is in response to Jonas Schoeler's little piece, "Students don't need Loop to ensure safety" (Nov. 1). Jonas, you're right. I am behind you 100 percent on this one, getting smashed beyond belief is stupid. And that is why I don't do it. But we're not talking about me, are we? No. We're talking about the other thousands of people who do. It's not just freshmen either. You've got to be totally oblivious or incredibly biased if you think it's only freshmen getting that drunk. All grades (including the almighty seniors) are represented in the drunken waltz back to their residences. I don't know if you've been out lately or not, but the majority of kids being belligerent and out of control aren't freshmen. Keeping the late-night Loop open as an option is very beneficial to the students' safety and well-being. I recognize that it is not the responsibilityof CATA to "hold [my] hand and get [me] home safe," but it is their responsibility to provide a service, and if that service provides safety, then I say hold away CATA, hold away.
