Mother of stabbing victim offers her condolences
My heart aches for all parties involved in the car accident early Saturday morning ("Police: DUI crash kills one," Oct. 30). I know what it is like to receive a phone call from the police in the early morning hours and be told your son has been seriously injured. They tell you to get here as soon as you can, but there really is nothing you can do. You ask if your son is OK, and they can't tell you anything. So you drive there in silence, praying. You arrive at the hospital and are met by the police who walk you through the hospital and you wonder if you are going to the morgue or a hospital room. You meet with the doctors who are very understanding and try everything in their power to help your child. It is a bad situation and the next few hours will tell what lies ahead. You cry and pray. The worst has happened, you call your relatives and tell them the unimaginable. Your 22-year-old son has been stabbed at Penn State and he is dead. The police tell you they have a suspect in custody, but that will not bring your child back. I wonder what time the parents received their phone calls. Each one is different but each is a tragedy. It is a bad situation all around and I pray for each and every one of them, their families and their friends. Debbie Donahue
