Letter to the Editor
Cheating is not tolerated

This letter is in response to "Cheating is an innate part of humanity" by Chris Mueller on Oct. 27.

He states that cheating is going to happen no matter what anyone tries to do about it, so he suggests that maybe we should stop caring about this, as he states, "American Way."

I disagree with Mueller's passive take on cheating. People should not simply accept the fact that people cheat, and they should try to stop cheating.

Cheating is taken very seriously at Penn State and all other universities.

The consequences are clear and severe.

His second point was that cheating occurs in all aspects of life, from sports to school.

Once an athlete's drug use is official, the athlete is stripped of all rewards.

Athletes, even in high school, are sometimes randomly given drug tests before games or tournaments.

Mueller claims that academic cheating and athletic cheating should be accepted.

If athletic cheating is not permitted, then why should academic cheating?

Mueller needs to revaluate his opinion on the severity of cheating.

There are absolutely no excuses for cheating.

Cheating should not be accepted or tolerated.

If this is in fact the "American Way," then we need to change it.
