An armed man suspected of robbing a State College bank Friday afternoon is still on the run, and police have yet to name a suspect or confirm any leads.

Police said Reliance Bank, 1824 S. Atherton St., was robbed at about 3 p.m. by an unknown white man, who is described as in his early 30s to late 40s, 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build.

The suspect fled the scene after brandishing a handgun and obtaining an undisclosed amount of money, according to a State College Police Department press release.

The suspect was described as wearing a dark baseball cap, round-rimmed sunglasses, a dark jacket and blue jeans at the time of incident, according to the press release. Police added that the man appeared to have long gray hair and a gray mustache, which may have been a disguise.

Yellow police tape surrounded the scene while State College FBI, State College police and a K-9 unit searched for evidence.

Officers at the scene said no scent was picked up.

Reliance Bank was closed Friday after the incident and police could not confirm when the bank would reopen.

Adjacent neighbors of Reliance Bank, Home Delivery Pizza, 1820 S. Atherton St., remained open during the investigation, and a manager said Friday that no one inside the restaurant saw or heard anything during the robbery.

Kish Bank, 1961 S. Atherton St., which sits directly across the street from Reliance Bank, closed its lobby Friday because of the alleged robbery. Its drive-through tellers remained open.

The State College office of the FBI could not be reached for comment by press time yesterday.

State College Police Department is asking anyone with information to contact them at 234-7150 or CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-877-992-7463.
