Penn State’s offense may have sputtered, but the defense more than made up for any dropped balls or missed opportunities.

The State College Police Department is looking for a man suspected of robbing Reliance Back, 1824 S. Atherton St., around 3 p.m. today.

Penn State's Smeal College of Business has become one of the most applied to business schools in the nation.

When the Penn State powerlifting club disbanded in the early 1990s, most of its eight members were graduating seniors.

Despite recent mountain lion sightings in Pennsylvania, officials said there are no such creatures roaming around the state.

Penn State may be the No. 2 party school in the nation, but United Campus Ministries (UCM) thinks the social scene is missing something -- square dancing.

Members of the Penn State College Democrats gathered in front of Old Main at noon yesterday to voice their dissatisfaction with Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., though few students stopped to hear their message.

It's been two years since the release of Google Book Search, a controversial search engine for millions of printed materials, and a second Big Ten school has recently been added to the list of contributors.

That little white lie on your résumé could cost you the job.

The talk about a Bowl Championship Series game has slowed down now. The locker room is no longer buzzing with hype about Rose or Orange bowls.

Because of low state funding for public transportation, the late-night Blue and White Loop service might be cut from campus bus schedules.

Taking the stage at the Latino Caucus Date Auction last night, Justin Marshall elicited cheers from the crowd as he stripped down to his undershirt, only to be sold for the minimum bid of $5 a few seconds later.

Despite elevator inspection several times a year, Penn State technicians are called about 150 times annually to rescue occupants from malfunctioning campus elevators, an Office of Physical Plant representative said.

Although the real holiday is on Tuesday, Halloween will be in full force this weekend in State College, with activities ranging from a scary haunted maze to a parade of dressed-up tiny tots.

SPORTS

It's late-October, it's cold and there's a decent chance that flurries are flying through the air as you read this. Any attempt to play golf now would be futile, especially when you have to try to find your ball in the snow. But the Penn State women's golf team has found a way to combat the weather: Make like the birds and migrate south.

After the emotional letdown that followed the cancellation of their game last Friday against NYU, the Penn State Ice Lions will try not to let the two weeks between games hurt their play on the road.

For the second time in three weeks, the Penn State women's cross country team will be heading to Indiana for a meet.

Passing and solid quarterback play is to Purdue football what nameless jerseys are to Penn State -- a bit of a staple, a tradition.

There are bad defensive backfields, and then there's Purdue.

Tim Shaw has precious few Tuesdays left as a Nittany Lion.

In the three weeks since Penn State first met Minnesota and Wisconsin, the implications of this weekend's rematches have significantly increased.

Coming off a ninth straight Big Ten title, the No.9 women's soccer team had only one objective in mind to finish off the regular season -- ending Navy's undefeated season.

Tonight at 9, the Greenberg Ice Pavilion will play host to one of the ACHA's biggest rivalries, as No. 4 Ohio University (10-1-0) visits No. 3 Penn State (5-2-0, 5-1-0 ACHA) for their first matchup of the season.

With a record of 6-9-2, a shot at winning the Big Ten conference for any team would seem dismal at best.

Win twice this weekend and the Big Ten championship goes to the Nittany Lions. Win any less, and it's in someone else's hands.

After defeating West Virginia in last week's first match, the Penn State women's swimming and diving team looked to continue its success as they had in years past, and start the 2006 season off on the right foot.

The Penn State men's cross-country team has come in second place, three meets in a row. Last weekend, at the Pre-National Invitational, the pace of the race and the level of competition proved challenging for the team, as it placed 23rd overall. This weekend, the team is eyeing the prize. The Nittany Lions will head to the University of Indiana Sunday to compete at Big Ten Championships at 11 a.m.

Cover albums typically come later in a band's career as a chance to pay tribute to some of its favorite tunes and get a product on the shelves without writing new stuff. So how can one explain "Pussy Cats" Starring the Walkmen, which covers an entire album, coming from a young band that already put out a collection of originals this year?

As Suzanne Brockmann is my favorite author, I eagerly counted down the months for the release of her latest in a series of suspense fiction, Into the Storm. It was worth the wait.

Certain hypothetical situations just might be good plot lines for a movie. Take Man of the Year: "What if a comedian like Jon Stewart ran for President of the United States ... and won?" Unfortunately, writer/director Barry Levinson takes this concept and doesn't drive the message -- if any message at all -- home properly. In defense of Levinson though, who's going to take heed to the political insight of a man whose most recent work was the comedy flop Envy?

The saying goes, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree." Lloyd Banks' new release, Rotten Apple, falls very far from the tree of Dr. Dre.

On a chilly Tuesday evening in the Forum building, sounds of people humming and memorizing lines echo through the empty rooms.

When the sun goes down, get ready to see the Palmer Art Museum in a whole new light.

In college, the idea of buying textbooks automatically invokes a cringe -- but there was a time when books meant pictures, talking creatures and short sentences.
